Then there was light!
I’ve mentioned in recent posts that electric lighting and power sockets were being installed at Kileva Eastfield. The great news is that I’ve now heard that the supply has been turned on as the photos below show.
Here’s a letter from the Deputy Head Teacher expressing thanks from the community. In it you’ll see a mention that the school can now be one of the first to benefit from the government project to supply laptops to all schools in Kenya.
Laptops for Schools
Although ICT in Kenya has penetrated some sectors including postal services, banking, transportation, broadcasting, telecoms and healthcare, other sectors such as education lag behind. When elected last year, the Kenya government therefore announced a plan to deliver 1.3m laptops to schools in an attempt to rectify this. Providing an electricity supply to Kileva Eastfield means that this is just one of the initiatives that can be looked into by the school.
This clearly opens up the possibility for some exciting new projects at the school over time thanks to the generosity of Kileva donors in general, and to my cousin Paul in particular, so many thanks again to all concerned.
